volcanic group. British Antarctic Survey GEOMAP 2. Cambridge, British Antarctic Survey.
      Abstract:
This single-sided geological map covers James Ross Island of the north-eastern Antarctic Peninsula with the
map showing the volcanic rocks of the James Ross Island Volcanic Group (JRIVG). The geology of James Ross
Island is dominated by the Miocene to Holocene JRIVG, which overlies a local basement composed of > 5 km of
Cretaceous to Eocene marine sedimentary strata. The JRIVG is the largest Neogene volcanic field in the
Antarctic Peninsula region and extends over 7000 km². It comprises a major shield volcano (Mount Haddington)
and numerous monogenetic flank and satellite volcanoes.

The map includes a geological cross section across the central part of the island and a log of volcanic
sequences across the island with correlations established from geochronology.
      Purpose:
This single-sided geological map covers James Ross Island of the north-eastern Antarctic Peninsula with the
map showing the volcanic rocks of the James Ross Island Volcanic Group.
